Samsung announces Blu-ray writer in Germany, US devices scheduled for Q2

Samsung Germany today announced that has begun shipment of Blu-ray evaluation units. The two models announced, the internal B022A and the external SE-B026A will be hitting retail in April, the company said. According to the company, the drives can write single- and double-layer Blu-ray media at 2x speed (9 MB/s); DVDs can be burned with up to 12x and CDs with 40x speeds.

A spokesperson for Samsung USA told TG Daily that Samsung USA and Samsung Germany "are completely separate" and that Samsung USA does plan to ship the devices announced in Germany today. Instead, Samsung USA maintains its general promise to begin shipping Blu-ray writers in Q2 of this year.
