Sony Xperia SP, Xperia V Leaked in Images Ahead of MWC

Sony's Xperia SP and Xperia V smartphones have been showcased in leaked images ahead of their MWC reveal later this month.

Obtained by German site Android Hilfe, the pictures show that the Xperia SP (seen on the left side of the image) bears a striking resemblance to the Xperia Z in regards to design. Internally, though, the SP won't be as powerful as its Xperia counterpart.

The Sony Xperia SP, codenamed HuaShan, sports a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor and a 4.5-inch 720p display. Comparatively, the Xperia Z is powered by a quad-core chip and also features a full HD screen.

The images show the SP running on 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, while the 4.3-inch Xperia V is powered by Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. The former smartphone, meanwhile, will apparently feature a removable storage option, while the battery will be locked in the chassis.

Expect both devices to be announced from February 25 until February 28 at the Mobile World Congress.

Ugly. The bar is way higher than this now, particularly after the BBerry releases.

Still crossing my fingers that they will turn one of these into a new Xperia Play by adding a slide out controller.

  • I have an Xperia V. The battery is removable. There's also a place for an additional memory card, up to 32GB.
