Origin PC Has a New Thin & Light High-Performance Laptop
Origin PC released on Tuesday its very first “thin and light” laptop for gamers and enthusiasts, the EVO15-S. The notebook measures only 0.79 inches thin and weighs 4.36 pounds, making it easy for gamers to play their favorite titles in a hotel room, on the road, at a LAN party and so on. The notebook is available now for a starting price of $2,199.

This new laptop features a 15.6-inch eDP display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, or customers can opt for the 15.6-inch screen with a 2880 x 1620 resolution. Backing these screens is an Intel Core i7-4710HQ quad-core processor (2.5 GHz, 3.5 GHz), a Nvidia GeForce GTX 870M GPU with 3 GB of GDDR5 VRAM, and 16 GB of DDR3L-1600 memory (8 GB x 2).
The laptop also provides up to two 128 GB SSDs in RAID 0 along with a 1 TB 7200 RPM HDD, an SD card reader, Killer E2200 game networking and Intel dual-band Wireless AC connectivity, a built-in 720p HD webcam, three USB 3.0 ports and premium speakers with a subwoofer. All of this is kept cool using a dual-fan thermal cooling system. Custom paint or laser etching is also available.
In addition to those features, the laptop also sports a backlit multi-color keyboard with anti-ghosting keys, making it easy for PC gamers to maneuver their player character in the dark (man cave). Audio can be handled by the default integrated Sound Blaster Cinema 2, or by external devices like the Creative Sound Blaster Omni Surround 5.1, the Sound Blaster X-Fi Go! Pro or the Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro.
Finally, customers also have five operating system options to choose from: the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate, and the 64-bit versions of Windows 8.1 and 8.1 Professional.

Spac3nerd I never understood the appeal of light gaming or workstation laptops. Nobody plays heavy games or develops with the laptop on their lap. These laptops spend 90% of their life on a desk, where weight is not a very important factor.Reply
You could argue that it's easier to haul around, but a 7lb 15" laptop isn't much harder to carry than a 4lb 15" laptop, unless you have muscle atrophy.
In my case, my workstation is on a desk at home, I put it in a bag, carry it 15 meters to my car, drive to work, carry it a bit to my desk, and it stays there until the end of the day.

It's not about the weight but convenience, time, and logistics. Having been to my share of LAN parties, a gaming laptop saves lots of time and energy by not having to deal with hauling, managing, & plugging in all types of cables between the tower, monitor, peripherals and no issue with enough working space to set up shop. Less time with these issues equals more time gaming.

Having been to my share of LAN parties, a gaming laptop saves lots of time and energy by not having to deal with hauling, managing, & plugging in all types of cables between the tower, monitor, peripherals and no issue with enough working space to set up shop. Less time with these issues equals more time gaming.

Sorry if the word "workstation" implied a desktop. I mean to say "mobile workstation", as in a laptop that has workstation-grade hardware and warranty support.
I can see how hauling a desktop computer might be quite the inconvenience in that use case. -
Eh, laptops never where my thing. Too expensive for the performance. But it's still impressive how much computing power can be crammed into such a small enclosure. If I were a student who could get grants for such things, I'd probably buy one. This would kill anything Apple has to offer!Reply
