New Counter-Strike Will Launch with Zombie Mod

The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive blog reports that Valve's highly-anticipated shooter will launch alongside a new Zombie Mod. The studio has worked closely with the modders over at Plague Fest to produce this living dead shootfest which is presumed to be available only for the PC version initially. Surprised to see zombies? Don't be given how popular CoD: Black Ops' zombie mode and similar modes/mods have become.

"It was important to us as we developed CS:GO to make sure it was as moddable and extensible as any CS game.  So this is just one of many mods that will be available to CS:GO in the coming months," Valve said.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is slated to launch tomorrow, August 21, in North America and Europe for the Xbox 360 (XBLA), PlayStation 3 (PSN), Windows PC and Max OS X (both Steam). That said, fans won't see physical discs sitting on store shelves... at least, not yet.

Still haven't pre-purchased the game? Not to worry: there's still time to catch the pre-release discount. Fans can save 10-percent on the $14.99 price tag by purchasing the game now ($13.49). Want the complete Counter-Strike experience? Valve is currently offering the CS: Complete package (CS, CS: Condition Zero, CS: Source, CS: GO) for $29.99, down from the original retail price of $54.96.

"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."

Previously Valve planned for cross-platform multiplayer gameplay between the PS3, Mac OS X and Windows platforms, but the studio limited the feature to the non-console platforms due to the inability to release simultaneous updates across all three. However the PS3 version will include support for Move and the mouse/keyboard combo.

zombie mod was in CS 1.6 before CoD had it. It is also an entirely different kind of zombie mod compared to CoD. Zombies in CS are players with knives, and they infect the players that have guns.

Yes, time to show the console-kiddies that FPS on a PC is just better end-off.

If anyone is wondering, the mod is still in the works and will be ironed out over time down at plaguefest. they have 2 kinds of zombie mods in the works, classic infection mode which is what TheRabidDeer is speaking about, as well as Zombie escape mode, where everyone is ct, one person gets infected, and is a timed escape map where if anyone dies by any of the indiana jones like traps, becomes a zombie and spawns at the beginning trying to catch up to the CT survivors.

CoD 4 zombie mod was like that too. i had 2 servers packed 24/7 for nearly 5 months. good times.
And CoD 4 paintball mod was nice too.

i only buy it if its cross platform, so i can bash some console noobs :).

from what i heard it still feels like cs:source, ergo, extremely shallow. no hit-feedback, crap recoil, crap movement, no cool bugs. 1.6 another 10 years for me i guess ;)

as a 1.6 player as well as community in generals opinions, the aiming is liek 1.6 more than css. hitboxes are much more responsive, but recoil is a bit higher. movement s slightly slower than 1.6, but they fixed alot of peeking and shooting issues.

@above, yes, its mac compatible. valve is pushing for all of their games to work on Macs.
