EA Bringing Free C&C MMO to Desktop, Mobile Browsers

On Wednesday Electronic Arts said that the closed beta for Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances will begin on Thursday, and that interested gamers can now head here to sign up. Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances is an all new free-to-play, massively multiplayer online (MMO) strategy game set in the Command & Conquer Tiberium universe that will be playable in desktop and mobile web browsers.

"By integrating revolutionary in-game social and news update feeds, Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances plunges players into a completely interactive and dynamic gameplay experience," the company explains in a press release. "Live status streams and newsfeeds are updated in real time, forcing players to strategize, react, and adapt on the spot. MMO Strategy has never been faster or more critical to winning."

Developer Phenomic's past experience includes Lord of Ultima, BattleForge and Spellforce. The studio will be using HTML5 to bring the game across multiple platforms, eliminating the need to develop native apps for smartphones and tablets. This multi-platform MMO feat has already been accomplished by Spacetime Studios and its two MMOGs, Pocket Legends and Star Legends (although they use native Android and iOS apps), but this will be the first portable, cross-platform MMO strategy title to hit the market.

"Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances is the first MMO and first free-to-play game for the long-running Command & Conquer series. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to forge new ground with this acclaimed franchise," said Martin Löhlein, Senior Producer, Phenomic. "We’re hoping to deliver an experience that will allow our loyal fans to play their favorite franchise anywhere they go, while introducing the exciting world of Tiberium to new players."

The news of a browser-based C&C title arrives after the announcement of Command & Conquer Generals 2 back on December 10, developed by BioWare Victory and slated as a PC exclusive for 2013. However in the meantime, gamers interested in participating in the browser-based Tiberium Alliances closed beta can apply here.

Sounds interesting. I wonder if the phones can handle it properly though. I am going to have to check out the page and see if they list minimum specs.

EA is trying to regain their title from Activi$ion as the most hated publisher. They are almost there IMO. If you add this shit to the Origin/Forum account bans and the Origin is a spyware thingy...

cronik93MORE AK-47's FOR EVERYONE!?!?!No, this time... EA just jumping on the bandwagon with "free to play" games and trying to milk the last possible $ out of a franchise that they destroyed.

__-_-_-__EA killed C&C when they bought and destroyed Westwood. I boycott EA since then.
Agreed. Ever since Westwood was bought out by EA, the C&C series died. Still kicking it with the original Red Alert and Tiberian Sun. Still playing my Dune games too.

I had hopes that the newest entry for C&C might reboot to its roots branching from Bioware, but then I read this line "Bioware Victory: Its general manager is Jon Van Caneghem from Trion Worlds."

Can I get an item shop please with my tanks? *sarcasm*
