Hexen Returns as Hot Mod for Doom 3
A team of modders has taken over 5 years to create a Hexen "sequel" using Doom 3.
PC Gamer reports that a group of modders resurrected Raven Software's classic first-person (shooter) fantasy game Hexen using the Doom 3 engine. The only drawback is that it's not a complete remake of the original game, but rather a sequel to Hexen 2 that will revisit many locations found in the first installment.
Called Hexen: Edge of Chaos, the mod is completely unofficial and has thus far taken over five years to create. As with Hexen, gamers will have three classes to choose--Fighter, Cleric, and Mage. The multi-level puzzle gameplay will also remain intact, allowing players to move from location to location by using a centralized hub.
Based on provided screenshots, the team has faithfully recreated many of the original Hexen weapons including the Serpent staff, spiked mace, Wraithverge and more. Players will also face non-pixelated versions of various classic Hexen adversaries including flying Afrit beasts and double-headed Ettin demons.
According to the team, the first playable version of the Hexen "sequel" will be available in November. It will contain the Cleric's first hub which consists of three full maps and around 2 hours of gameplay. Overall the mod will take place after Hexen 2 and feature a storyline that ties in with both Hexen games and the Deathkings of the Dark Citadel expansion pack.
"You will fight monsters, solve puzzles, fail puzzles, use weapons, utilize artifacts, break lots of stuff, and curse our names to Chaos when you most likely die a few times along the way," the team teased on the mod's website. "Surely you all expect some degree of obscurity that comes with puzzles for this game.........and the price for failure is steep........ "
Now may be a good time to re-install Doom 3.

keyanf I'm fairly sure that when id Tech 4's source is released (When the new id engine gets its first release with Rage in 2011), it will be ported in a month or two (didn't take Urban Terror that long to transition from quake 3 mod to stand alone)Reply -
