Symantec Intros Norton 360 Everywhere for Multiple Devices
Symantec's Norton 360 Everywhere bundles three products with one low yearly subscription fee.
On Thursday Symantec announced that it has officially launched Norton 360 Everywhere, a multi-platform antivirus solution for up to five devices, including smartphones and tablets. According to Symantec, this one-stop-shop solution aims to reduce the overwhelming confusion caused by managing different security solutions installed on the 4.8 devices used in the average American household.
"Consumers are increasingly using multiple devices in their daily lives, and staying protected across all of those devices can be a challenge," said Janice Chaffin, group president, Consumer Business Unit, Symantec. "To meet this need, we have extended our Norton 360 flagship security product to help ensure people are protected across any device they choose to use."
Norton 360 Anywhere uses just one key to activate protection on all devices, and a cloud-based "Norton" management console for controlling security options on any listed device anywhere at any time. This offering is also flexible, allowing subscribers to move protection off one device and onto another without having to tack on additional subscription fees.
Symantec's Norton 360 Everywhere covers three products: Norton 360 Premier for Windows PC, Norton Internet Security for Mac, and Norton Mobile Security for Android -- there doesn’t appear to be any options for iOS, Windows Phone or BlackBerry devices. Despite the announcement, the Norton 360 Everywhere site wasn't up and running as of this writing, so details are currently slim.
What seems to be the case is that Symantec is bundling three software suites at a discounted price, betting that consumers won't use all three at once. Norton 360 Premier by itself is $99.99 per year, Norton Internet Security for Mac is $69.99 per year, and Norton Mobile Security is $19.99 per year. Add all of that up and you have $189.97, but again, chances are that a consumer has a Windows PC, Mac and Android device are rather slim.
Does this sound like a bad deal? Maybe for those who use Lookout's free service on Android and Microsoft's own free Security Essentials on Windows. But with the premium price comes premium features like automatic backup, bootable recovery mode, PC tuneup, 24/7 technical support, email and instant messaging monitoring, Facebook monitoring and more.
Norton 360 Everywhere is supposedly available for purchase at various retailers and online at us.norton.com. The suggested retail price is $99 USD for one year of protection for up to five devices. All Norton 360 Everywhere customers with an active account are eligible to download the latest product versions and updates during their paid period.
