Last week we heard rumors about Asus launching a 'mini' version of its PadFone smartphone. This week, the company officially unveiled the device in Taiwan.
In keeping with the current 'mini' smartphone trend, the PadFone Mini is a mid-range device with the same aesthetic as Asus's flagship PadFone. It packs a 4.3-inch Super IPS qHD display with 256ppi and runs on a Snapdragon 400 SoC with Adreno graphics and 1 GB of RAM. The PadFone Mini features an 8-megapixel camera on the rear and a 2-megapixel camera up front as well as 16 GB of storage and support for additional storage via MicroSD, dual-SIM, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS and GLONASS.
Of course, it wouldn't be a PadFone if it didn't also come with a tablet dock. To match the mini status of the phone, the tablet dock is also mini. The 7-inch device packs a 1280 x 800 display as well as a 2,200 mAh battery.
GSM Arena says the PadFone Mini will be available in Taiwan as well as China, Russia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Singapore when it finally does go on sale. No word on a launch date just yet.
