CyberpowerPC Intros New Fang Mini Series

Looking for a PC gaming solution in an ultra-small form factor? CyberPower may have what you're looking for in the form of the FANG Mini series, measuring just 4.5 x 4.3 x 2.4 inches. The FANG Mini R9 starts at $799 and the FANG Mini pro has a starting price of $889.

For starters, the FANG Mini R9 packs a quad-core AMD A8-5557M APU, Radeon R9 M275X graphics (2 GB GDDR5), 8 GB of DDR3L memory, a 1 TB 7200 RPM hard drive, Wireless AC and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, and Windows 8.1.

As for the more expensive FANG Mini Pro, this mini PC includes the quad-core Intel Core i7-4770R processor, integrated Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200, 8 GB of DDR3L memory, a 1 TB 7200 RPM hard drive, Wireless AC and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, and Windows 8.1.

Both models also include HDMI and Mini DisplayPort outputs, Gigabit Ethernet, four USB 3.0 ports, a 3.5 mm headphone jack with SPDIF support, and an integrated Kensington security slot. The two SO-DIMM DDR3L slots can be configured with up to 16 GB of memory, and there's an mSATA slot for an extra SSD. The 2.5-inch expansion bay can hold another SDD or hard disk drive.

CyberPower suggests that these two tiny gaming PCs would be ideal for a crowded entertainment center, or mounted on the back of a large display. They're even small enough to be easily carried to LAN parties (if you dare) without the hassles of dragging around a huge gaming machine.

Not going to say this is solid proof that the Intel solution for graphics is crap for gaming but here is what i found: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Intel+Iris+Pro+5200 .

Considering the i7-Brix cost $620+ about $200 for OS, RAM and hard drive which doesn't take a lot of work to put-in/install). I'd rather spend my $70 saved on a few games...
If it would play them ;)

I don't see why they've bothered to rebrand a fairly niche unit. The Brix Gaming (FANG Mini R9) has absolutely horrible cooling, like no-one bothered to actually think about designing it better with a big shared heat-sink, bigger fan on the top of the unit etc., so I'm not sure I'd want to game on it, definitely not for that price.

Quite the dichotomy in CyberPower's pairings:

    1) AMD - mediocre CPU for gaming, good graphics
    2) Intel - great CPU, mediocre graphics for gaming

Don't they understand that gamers want both a great CPU and a great GPU? Build that in a Brix-pro size platform, and they would buy it. Otherwise, you're asking them to buy a handicapped gaming PC in either offering.

This has extra fans on the side near the mSata slot. I wonder if that helps with the noise issues of the Brix Pro? Would love to see a review.
