LaCie said that it has added another capacity to its Rugged USB 3.0 Thunderbolt line of external drives, now offering 2 TB of storage. Previously the company offered up to 1 TB of storage and speeds of up to 385 MB/s on the two SSD models. The new 2 TB model is available now for a meaty price of $299.99 USD.
"With video and photo file sizes increasing exponentially, creative pros are generating more digital content than ever before," said Erwan Girard, Professional Business Manager, LaCie. "Today, we've addressed their number one demand by doubling the LaCie Rugged's capacity. This allows on–the–go pros to store more data on fewer drives and lets them stay in the field longer."
The company offers a 120 GB SSD-based model for $199.99, a 256 GB SSD-based model for $349.99, a hard drive-based 1 TB model for $229.99, and the just-added hard drive based 2 TB model. All four provide USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt ports, and a Thunderbolt cable is even tossed into the package.
LaCie's Rugged series gets its name honestly, as all four models are MIL-compliant for superior data protection from accidental drops up to 4 feet – the SSD models are even resistant to intense vibration and shock. They're also tough enough to be shipped for reliable delivery to colleagues, clients or partners, and include AES 256-bit encryption software to protect files from prying eyes or theft.
"The 2 TB model achieves speeds up to 127 MB/s, a 15 percent increase from the previous version," the company announced. "With these speeds users can transfer 750 RAW photos or one HD movie in less than one minute. Built for heavy data users who require complete mobility, the LaCie Rugged is the ideal sidekick to a new Mac or Ultrabook."
The new LaCie Rugged USB 3.0 Thunderbolt Series 2 TB HDD, designed by Neil Poulton, is available through the LaCie Online Store and LaCie Resellers.
