Built-In Twitch Streaming Coming to Minecraft

Twitch Marketing Vice President Matthew DiPietro confirmed during Minecon 2013 this weekend, which took place in Orlando, Florida, that the functionality to stream gameplay from within Minecraft will be introduced "soon." He said that the popular PC game has struck a very powerful chord with the Twitch community.

"Its constantly escalating popularity illustrates that people love to watch video games outside of the headline grabbing eSports titles. Expect a watershed moment for both players and spectators once the ability to easily broadcast gameplay directly to Twitch goes live," DiPietro told CVG.

Twitch streaming will be made available in the PC and Mac versions of Minecraft, as well as the PlayStation 4 version slated to launch alongside the new console, and the Xbox One version that will appear sometime during the "launch window." As of September, Minecraft sold more than 12 million copies on the PC platform alone since 2009, and more than 33 million copies across all platforms.

"Expect a watershed moment for both players and spectators once the ability to easily broadcast gameplay directly to Twitch goes live," DiPietro told GameSpot. Games that also provide official Twitch support include PlanetSide 2, Trackmania 2, and Path of Exile.

Unfortunately, both Mojang and Twitch are remaining quiet about when integration will actually take place. However, they claim that players will be able to simply stream their games to Twitch "at the click of a button." Stay tuned…

Late last month Mojang released "the update that changed the world," aka a pre-release of v1.7.2, with more than half a million lines of code changed across 1,104 commits. There's over twice the amount of in-game biomes, and the team overhauled lots of the code, preparing for the plugin API. Changes and additions include new blocks, fishing, an overhaul to the achievements and statistics, multiplayer enhancements, resource pack changes and more.

"To help test the pre-release, open your launcher and press the 'New Profile' button. Call it 'snapshots' and check the box saying 'Enable experimental development snapshots' and save. To switch to the normal version, you can select it in the dropdown at the bottom left corner of the launcher," the developer states.

Watching someone else play Minecraft is only slightly less boring than watching golf.

Xbox will only run minecraft at 720p while ps4 gets native 1080p. No doubt which console will be the superior minecrafr platform.
