Sigh of Relief: Modern Warfare 2 PC Not Delayed

After 421 very long pages on the official Infinity Ward Modern Warfare 2 forum packed with anger and uncertainty regarding a rumored delay for the PC version of the upcoming shooter, the game developer finally broke silence and confirmed that all versions of Modern Warfare 2 will be hitting on November 11.

Ryan Bowling of Infinity Ward tweeted: "No delay on PC for Modern Warfare 2. You'll also have Prestige Mode in PC as well as lots of Steam support. Hopefully min specs will be soon"

Those 140 characters don't contain a lot of detail, but the word of no delay along with Steam support should bring a smile to the faces of many PC gamers.

To celebrate this good news, let's take a look at the latest trailer:

Marcus Yam
Marcus Yam served as Tom's Hardware News Director during 2008-2014. He entered tech media in the late 90s and fondly remembers the days when an overclocked Celeron 300A and Voodoo2 SLI comprised a gaming rig with the ultimate street cred.

Assuming that the other news I heard is true (that they dropped the dedicated server option and modding support)

...this just means I can go out and not buy it on time instead of waiting to not buy it.

Hopefully that one turns out to be untrue as well though.

    no dedicated servers..

"If you have never played on a PC, and your multiplayer experience has only been delivered to you via matchmaking, then you will never really understand. But try to imagine a host hosting a game while never turning his console off, and you can always reach that room and play there whenever you want, night or day, because its always on. Now imagine that host has a Pentagon grade internet connection and his X360 can handle 64 players in that room. On top of that, the guy whos the host is actually resurrected Ghandi, so you will all be treated with respect, anyone using racial slurs, being offensive or just detrimental to gameplay experience via TKing or exploiting glitches, is going to be removed from that server forever. Now imagine dozens and dozens of custom maps running on that server, which you will get for free, because IWs not making them. Then imagine entire communities and forums built around that one room (server). You recognize people who visit that same room, you befriend them, you have fun with these familiar folks. The story goes on, and that's what were missing. All of it is gone."

read that and you'll know why that just kills the game for the PC community.

The PC community are the ones who built the Call of Duty Franchise in the first place. This will come back to haunt them.

  • I would rather have the delay than no dedicated servers. Looking forward to 8 on 8 action on PC, with host dropping out.
Thanks but no thanks, I'll spend my money on something else.

One of the reasons I was considering this game for purchase, was when I heard co-op was now an available mode. But, then I read it is only a two person co-op mode? I guess it is better then no co-op at all.. but at least make it four or so players.

Then I read the single player mission would be about the same length as CoD4, which I thought was way to short.

Now I read about no dedicated servers and such.....

Well, I most likely not buy it... to similar sounding to COD4. CoD4 was good for a while, but the single player mission was so short and the online play got boring after a while. I still play it once in a while, but I have moved on. There are other games coming out, soon, that I would probably spend my money on over this title.

Thanks IW for destroying community based gaming, which is what keeps me playing Online FPS games.

Pretty much explains all that is going on with the PC. As Itswald0x said, the console fanboys don't get it. I was expecting this to be my game to play for the year, but it seems that dream is now gone. Everyone in my clan is pulling out, my friends in college are pulling out (their console versions as well), and even my friends on the public Ventrilo I go to are pulling out. They may patch it later, but as far as pre-orders are concerned, it is really hurting IW. Consoles do not have a big of a share in this game as the fanboys think btw.

At the moment the online petition (not sure how many fake signed users there are) is at 68,000 which at $60 per game is about $4.1 million. Again, that is if each petition is legit.
