Storage enclosure packs four 2.5" harddrives into one 5.25" bay
Fujitsu announced that Enhance Technology will use the firm's next-gen SATA harddrives in the QuadraPack 14, storage enclosure that can house up to four 2.5" Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or Serial ATA (SATA) harddrives mounted into a single 5.25" drive bay. Potential customers of the product include users who are interested in "audio recording, video editing, high performance computing, on-demand streaming media servers, RAID implementations and server storage," Fujitsu said.
The company did not mention any capacities of "next-gen" 2.5" SATA/SAS harddrives. Since the current generation tops-out at 100 GByte and some manufacturers are already offering 120 GByte devices and announced 160 GByte drives for the first quarter of 2006, it is likely that Fujitsu will follow this path as well - putting maximum capacities for four-drive systems at 480 GByte and 640 GByte, respectively.
