16x DVD-R media to ship in January

Verbatim announced today that it will begin shipping 1-16x speed DVD-R media later this month. With the ability to record video, photos, music or data files at speeds of up to 21 MByte per second, users will be able to fill an entire 4.7 GByte disc in about six minutes.

BenQ, Hitachi-LG, Lite-On, NEC, Plextor, and Sony are among the manufacturers that already have announced drives supporting 16x recording speed. (THG)
