Grab 14TB of shuckable storage for $169 — WD external hard drive back to all-time low for Black Friday
Even as SSDs grow larger, you just can't beat traditional spinner storage when it comes to pricing. The WD Elements 14TB external hard drive is back at a fantastic price of $169.99, the drive's historic all-time low price. This great deal means you could save up to $210 off its regular price.
The WD Elements 14TB provides ample space to store your photos, music, and other cherished files. Even if it's not the maximum capacity configuration the device offers, 14TB is still a generous amount of storage for your valuable data. Plus, it connects easily to your system via a standard USB 3.1 Gen 1 port, so compatibility won't be a concern.
The WD Elements 14TB is mainly designed as an external storage device, but you can also choose to shuck it to recycle the hard drive for your NAS or homemade server. Just keep in mind, shucking will void the warranty, so be sure you're comfortable with that before proceeding.
The WD Elements 14TB is an ample external storage solution for all your backup needs. Alternatively, you can shuck it and repurpose the internal hard drive for your NAS or PC.
The WD Elements 14 measures 5.31 x 1.89 x 6.53 inches and weighs 0.9 pounds. Although it's not obnoxiously big or heavy, it's one of those external storage devices that'll probably spend more time on your desk than on the road. The device requires external power and must be connected to a wall outlet via an AC adapter.
The WD Elements 14 is ready to use immediately if you're a Windows PC user. If you're using macOS, you'll need to reformat it to a file system compatible with macOS. Western Digital provides a limited two-year warranty on the WD Elements 14TB, giving you extra peace of mind.

pug_s This is no deal. About 3.5 years ago, Bestbuy had the deal with the same drive for $200 and you can get 15% off if you give an old drive to recycle. I have plenty of dead drives from my company and got 4 drives and I am currently using them in my Synology NAS.Reply -

Misgar Grab 14TB of shuckable storage for $169 I've just checked my local Amazon web site and the WD Elements 14TB is the equivalent of US $344.54, including 20% local tax.Reply
That's double the price in the US. Somebody, somewhere is making a decent profit. Economies of scale or price gouging?
The trouble with buying USB drives is you've no idea what's inside, until you get your hands on it.Amdlova said:if you are lucky will have an red drive on it.
I shucked an old 8TB WD Elements recently after making sure it was CMR, not SMR. The drive was white label not red, but I'm still very pleased it's not SMR, which I avoid whenever possible. -
docbones69 Two suggestions for the article, I would add a part on how the drive companies have made shucking harder. (case are more complex) and a second part about the warranty and that for those in the US the warranty is NOT voided if you shuck your drives.Reply
