2K Games, Gearbox Confirms Borderlands 2

Wednesday 2K Games and Gearbox Software released a short-and-sweet statement that a sequel to Borderlands is currently in the works. The game is slated to arrive on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC during Take-Two’s fiscal year 2013 beginning on April 1, 2012.

"Borderlands 2 is the epic sequel to the ultimate four-player Role-Playing Shooter loot fest. Combining invention and evolution, Borderlands 2 features all-new characters, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment, which come together in an ambitiously crafted story," both parties said in a statement. "Players will reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora."

2K Games and Gearbox Software is set to show the game's current state during Gamescom 2011 from August 17 – August 21, and then during PAX Prime (Booth #3417) from August 26 – August 28. Additional information will also be available in the latest issue (September) of Game Informer Magazine, which has the worldwide exclusive cover story on the title. The 12-page article will provide screenshots and several game details including one of the several new character classes being introduced in the sequel.

"Don’t expect just a couple bazillion more guns this time around," the magazine states. "Gearbox is introducing new and more diverse environments, smarter and more powerful enemies, and an improved mission system capable of delivering a better story."

Looks like now is a good time to actually finish the first installment...

It's kind of a letdown that they said it'd be set on pandora. There's a lot of story to investigate throughout the whole borderlands universe, why limit it to pandora only?

at a press conference in early spring I remember an executive from gearbox, "mistakenly" mentioned borderlands 2 in the making. I wonder if their gonna spend another 5 years making this one.

    Dear Gearbox,

Please let us know in advance if you are going to support robust graphics resolutions and aspect rations (with appropriate FOVs). I do not want to waste another dime on buying a modern game that has console-like restrictions on graphics configuration.

    Thanks.

Could be decent. They'd better make a lot of changes to the first though as I've played that one to death and new story alone won't make me want to play it again.
