Dr Who Annivesary Special to Be Shown in 3D in Theatres

Dr Who has been around for a long, long time. Fifty years to be a bit more precise. As such, the show has seen quite a bit of change over the course of its airing. The world is a vastly different place compared to 1963. Fitting, then, that the show should embrace a new technology for its 50th anniversary special.

Dr Who producer the BBC has revealed that a special 50th anniversary episode will be filmed and aired in 3D. Not only that, but fans can actually go and see the showing in the cinema if they don't have a 3D TV at home. According to the Beeb, the move is part of a larger effort to make the BBC more British than ever.

"It is about applying the Danny Boyle vision to our work - a bold, adventurous, authorial approach that exports because of its Britishness not despite it," BBC controller of drama, Ben Stephenson, is quoted as saying.

With almost 800 episodes, Dr Who is aired in almost 50 countries and is set to return to the small screen at the end of March. The 50th anniversary will be in November and is the second time the good Doctor has gotten the 3D treatment. The BBC reports that the 30th anniversary special, Dimensions i Time, was also shot in 3D.

3D is 'new' technology? This is news to me. Unless they mean 3D using polarized glasses...
I wish them luck trying to create new excitement for a show in decline by just throwing 3D at it.
    I miss David Tenant.

Before you do anything rash like pressing another button, may I make an alternative suggestion? ;)
