This time last year (almost to the day, actually), UK retailer John Lewis launched its own broadband service. The company is now hoping to snag some new customers with an offer that will see the retailer offer free internet to customers purchasing electronics.
John Lewis is offering anyone purchasing PCs, laptops, tablets, mobiles, smart TVs, radios, printers or cameras free broadband for six months. Of course, nothing in life is ever really free, so there is a catch. A couple, in fact. One, you have to commit to a 12-month broadband contract, so while you're getting six months of free internet, you're also signing yourself up for six months of broadband. The other is that you'll have to pay line rental for the full 12 months. This line rental is £13.50 per month.
John Lewis offers three broadband packages: Standard, Unlimited, and Fibre. Standard offers speeds up to 16Mb and a 20 GB data cap for £11 per month plus line rental of £13.50. Unlimited offers the same speed with an unlimited data cap for £18 per month plus £13.50 line rental charge. The fibre package is £25 per month for speeds of up to 38Mb and a 100 GB cap.
