Kobo Arc Tablet to get Jelly Bean Firmware Update

Android Jelly Bean 4.1 released for Kobo's 7 inch Arc Tablet; improved performance and lots of added features.

Kobo has announced that is it releasing Android's 4.1 Jelly Bean firmware update for its eReaders. The update is specifically targeted at their 7 inch Kobo Arc, which earlier this month received the Red Dot Award for Product Design 2013 as one of the 15 winning contestants. The update aims to enhance the experience of the multimedia enabled eReader by improving the touch screen, voice to text capabilities, and search recommendations.

The update also adds some new features, such as the highly anticipated Google Now. It also has a Facial Identification and an Unlock feature, which is quickly gaining popularity with major device manufacturers. Further improvements to searching, predictive typing and voice recognition find their places, while general performance and notification improvements are standard as seen from other Jelly Bean 4.1 updates.

    I am surprised that there are still low-end tables out there available that are running Android 2.1...

    Its nice to see that this tablet is updated from 4.0 but for this price point its better to go with the Nexus 7.

    Very impressed with how easy my update went: fast/flawless! Arc has been working very well since updated a few days ago and I definitely notice increase in speed/smoothness ('buttery') and like the new features 4.1 brings.

    The amazon one mentioned above is very well spec'd and gets good reviews. I went with the Kobo Arc because of how open the tablet is re: I can use Amazon Kindle App. and any other reader and I have access to tons more apps etc. I do not like the way Amazon locks you in... best to make sure hubby does not either :)
