After being outed in a leaked roadmap and a benchmark, South Korean technology giant Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Fame smartphone, as well as the Galaxy Young.
Running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the Galaxy Fame sports a 3.5-inch HVGA TFT screen and is powered by an unspecified 1GHz processor, as well as 512 MB of RAM.
A rear 5-megapixel LED flash auto-focus camera is joined by a front-facing camera. A 1,300 mAh battery is included, as is NFC support and 4 GB of storage, which can be expanded up to 64 GB through a microSD card.
Several UI tweaks from Samsung will be added alongside Android, including motion gestures such as shaking the device to refresh information displayed on all active widgets, in addition to turning the device over to mute an incoming call.
Another addition to its affordable low-end Android slate is the Galaxy Young. It sports a 3.3-inch screen and will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, accompanied by Project Butter, which makes a device run smoother. It's powered by an unspecified 1GHz processor and 768 MB of RAM.
It'll be offered in single and dual-SIM variants, as well as several colors: white, deep blue, wine red and metallic silver. The Galaxy Young also features a 3-megapixel camera with no LED flash, but it can record VGA videos at 24 frames per second and can play back WVGA recordings at 30 frames per second.
Internal storage of 4 GB is included, which can be expanded up to 64 GB via a microSD slot, joined by a 1,300 mAh battery.
Pricing and availability details have yet to be unveiled for both devices, but expect Samsung to reveal such information at the Mobile World Congress (February 25 to February 28).
