Some Galaxy S III UK Pre-orders to Arrive a Day Early
Well, almost a day early.
When Samsung revealed that it wouldn't be bringing the Galaxy S III to Mobile World Congress this past February, the company said it was leaving the phone at home because it wanted to have the launch and release fairly close together. Fast forward a couple of months to early May and Samsung is unveiling the phone in London and promising the phone will hit the market by May 30. However, it seems the phone is going to arrive a little bit earlier than that for some people.
Samsung has revealed that some pre-orders of the Galaxy S III will be arriving a smidgen early. Samsung UK issued a press release this morning to announce that customers who pre-ordered a Galaxy S III from the Samsung Brand Store at Westfield Stratford City will be able to collect their device the night before the official launch date of 30 May.
According to the statement, people can collect their phones from 6pm onwards on May 29. If you didn't pre-order through the Westfield location, Samsung has said it's giving retail partners the option of making their own Galaxy S III pre-orders available the night before, too. However, these stores will only be able to allow collections from 7pm onwards on the 29th.
"We've had an overwhelming response from our retail partners and customers alike since announcing the Galaxy S III on 3 May. So we wanted to delight our customers and reward them for pre-ordering by letting them get their hands on the device a day before anyone else," said Simon Stanford, Vice President, Telecommunications and Networks, Samsung UK and Ireland. " We believe we have created our best smartphone yet, designed specifically with daily human needs in mind, and we are proud to provide our customers with a truly unique mobile user experience."
The Galaxy S III packs a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED 1280 x 720 display; a quad-core Exynos processor; 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera on the back with a 1.9-megpixel affair up front; Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) with Samsung's TouchWiz UI on top and new gesture functions to improve navigation; and HSPA+ support (Samsung is also working on an LTE model). The whole package weighs in at 133g and measures just 8.6mm thick. The Galaxy S III is set for U.S. availability this summer.
