Rumors Point to Water-resistant Sony Xperia Z Tablet

One of the most impressive phones we saw at CES was the Sony Xperia Z (pictured below). Aside from its top notch specs, the device felt well built and sturdy in our hands and had the added bonus of being water resistant. It's Sony's best Xperia device yet, and we're eagerly looking forward to the launch so we can play with it properly. However, the handset might not be Sony's only Xperia Z.

Now there's reports that there's also an Xperia Z tablet. This tablet will apparently be water resistant and dust proof, just like the Xperia Z phone. Specswise, you're looking at a 10.1-inch 1920×1200 touchscreen, the same 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 CPU as the Xperia Z, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and LTE. Of course, it's also got a couple of cameras for video chat and photography. Around back is an 8-megapixel affair, while the front-facing camera is a 2-megapixel job. Powering it all is a 6,000 mAh battery.

Unwired View cites Twitter handle @Xperia Info in reporting the news, but Sony has yet to confirm the tablet's existance. The Sony Xperia Z is due out sometime this quarter, but we don't yet have a release date for it. Given Sony didn't announce the tablet at CES, we reckon it could be trying to get the Xperia Z phone out the door before it starts talking about a tablet version of the phone. Still, if the company can make a tablet as impressive as the Xperia Z, we'd be very excited. Check out our hands on with the phone here.

Water-resistant does not necessarily mean water-proof....

It's not water resistant unless if the warranty allows it. I've read horror stories of customers getting screwed over by various camera companies, such as Olympus Corporation and Fujifilm, after they used their water-proof camera in the water.

Bob: "Uh, my water-proof camera died after I used it in the water once."

Scammer: "On page 116 of our warranty policy manual, it specifically stated that water-proof cameras are not to be used in the water."

    Bob: "What?"

Scammer: "Because you used your water-proof camera in the water, it voided your 3 year warranty. Pay $200 to fix your camera, or fuck off!"

You do know you can text to 911, or at least to 911 centers that were modernized in the previous decade?

I wish all my electronics were at least water resistant. I wouldn't hesitate taking them on boats, to the beach, etc. We spend a lot of time in and around water.
