On Friday Archos revealed a number of devices it plans to showcase next week during IFA 2013 in Berlin, including a flagship Android-based smartphone and a second-generation model of its gaming tablet, the GamePad. The company will go into more detail about its product strategy during the show next week, Archos said.
For starters, the company introduced on Friday the Archos 50 Oxygen, an "unskinned" Android 4.2 smartphone featuring a 1920 x 1080 IPS screen, a quad-core SoC clocked at 1.5 GHz, and 16 GB of internal storage. The device will also provide a 13MP camera on the back, and a 5MP camera on the front. "Unskinned" means the phone will be pure Android: no bloat or ODM overlays here.
Archos also introduced the Titanium range of "unskinned" Android 4.2 phones, joining the current Platinum lineup. This new range will sport 4 inch screens, dual-core processors, GPS, dual SIM card slots, Bluetooth, a 5MP camera on the back and a 0.3MP camera on the front. The company said the Platinum range will also see new added models next week, but didn't provide any hardware details.
Moving on to tablets, the company hinted to a new addition to its Platinum range called the Archos 97b Platinum HD, sporting Android 4.2, a quad-core processor, and an IPS screen with a 2048 x 1536 resolution. The Gen11 tablet line will also be updated with the Archos 101xs2, offering front-facing dual stereo speakers, the company's magnetic keyboard functionality, an aluminum body and a 2048 x 1536 IPS screen.
Also slated for the show next week is the Archos ChildPad range. As the name implies, these tablets include a kid-friendly user interface, a Google Play storefront filtered for kids, full parental controls and Android 4.2. This range will include the Archos 80 and the 101 ChildPad tablets, the latter of which is "designed to bridge the gap from the digital world of the tablet to content in the re al world using magnetic figurines".
Finally, the Archos pre-IFA 2013 reveal on Friday avoided the whole GamePad 2 topic and went straight into the new Archos Xenon range of tablets including the Archos 80 Xenon. These three devices will feature HD screens, up to a quad-core processor, Android 4.2, and 3G connectivity.
