Gionee Elife E7 Mini Features Octo-core CPU

The Gionee Elife E7 only launched about a month ago, but it looks like Gionee is already preparing to give the device a little brother. The company announced the E7 Mini this week, and though its hardware doesn't come close to the specs present in the E7, the E7 Mini still has a few tidy little features to help it stand out.

Most notable is the swiveling camera, which is located on the top of the device and boasts a 13-megapixel lens with a flash for low light scenarios. It also packs dual-SIM compatibility for folks who like to switch between carriers. The E7 Mini sports a 4.7-inch 720p display, an octo-core CPU clocked to 1.7 GHz, and 16 GB of RAM. The whole thing runs on Android 4.2.

Those specs are nothing to sniff at, but the phone pales in comparison to the regular version of the E7, which features a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 800 chip clocked to 2.5 GHz, 3 GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel camera, an 8-megapixel camera up front, up to 32 GB of storage, and a 2,500 mAh battery.

The E7 Mini is already available in India. No word on North American availability, but we'll keep you posted. According to FoneArena, which went hands on with the device, local pricing in India is Rs. 18999 (just over $300).

Any apps out there the utilize more than dual core atm? Anything that this useless core/display race is used for? Wouldn't improvements to battery life be more beneficial?

The extra cores serve the very important purposes of improving benchmark results and allowing one to brag about the new phone.

Oh yeah this phone is available in India. But I am not a big fan of 8-core CPU smartphone. But the swivel cam looks interesting just like Oppo N1.

I am impressed by the 16 GB ram on the phone that uses a 32-bit processor. Its 1 GB Ram, and 16 GB storage.

    Well,
As I know both 8 cores don't operate at one time. 4 cores are clocked at higher freq and the other 4 cores are clocked low freq. At low freq it consumes about 1/10 power than it consumes at high freq. So at this point apps can't use 8 cores at one time. Also as I know there's a hidden 9th core -can't be used by apps or android- which decides which core groups is suitable at that point. So portable devices like this can have more battery life than the ones that have only 4 cores running at high freq.
