Nexus 9 Available For Only $200 Through 'HTC Hot Deals' Program, Quantity Limited

The Nexus 9 started shipping yesterday with a price tag of $400 for the 16 GB Wi-Fi-only model, but HTC already has a surprise for us today. Starting right now, HTC is running a "50 percent off" deal for the 16 GB Nexus 9. You'll be able to purchase a Nexus 9 for only $200 for the next 12 hours (until 9PM PT) if you buy one from HTC's own site. Unfortunately, the deal is U.S.-only, so those of you living outside of the U.S. are out of luck right now.

This program, which HTC dubs the "HTC Hot Deals," seems to be something that HTC will do every week for an undetermined period. Every Tuesday HTC will significantly lower the price of one of its devices, possibly in an effort to drive more customers to buy products directly from its website, instead of buying them from retailers.

When we asked why HTC is offering these steep discounts to its products, an HTC representative told Toms Hardware that the company simply wants to offer some good pre-holiday deals to its customers and that the new "HTC Hot Deals" program is similar to the "HTC Advantage" program, which offers HTC customers the following benefits (only if you buy the devices through HTC):

Free one time screen replacement within first 6 months.Automatic software updates within 90 days for our flagship devices.25-100 GB of additional cloud storage and backup.Help when you need it. The way you want it, through chat, phone or e-mail.

HTC said there is only a limited quantity of Nexus 9 tablets (although it didn't say how many are available) that will benefit from the $200 discounts today, and once those run out, the company will offer a $50 discount for both 16 GB and 32 GB Wi-Fi models for anyone who purchases one by 9PM PT/midnight ET today. With Google's own shortage of Nexus 9 tablets, it's likely HTC doesn't have too many lying around, either, so you'll have to hurry and pick one up if you want it.

This would be nice if their website wasn't crashing and refusing connections to view products or your cart. I guess they weren't expecting the traffic.

Also, they're confirmed already gone. About 10 minutes after the deal was posted everywhere.

Maybe not gone, but not $199 any more. Now $50 off, not 50% off.

If I didn't already have two tablets (Dell Venue 8 Pro and iPad 2nd Generation) I'd be buying one of these faster than you could blink.

Yeah no micro SD card support is kind of a deal breaker to me, which is why I'm not too interested in the Nexus 6.

I don't think Tom's should go along with no-quantity "sale" announcements like this. It's simply cheap advertising for HTC. Your readers depend on you to filter out the chaff. Don't give us "nothing" articles.
