Wikipad, OnLive Team Up for New Discount Promotion

OnLive announced on Wednesday that it has teamed up with the makers of the WikiPad 7 tablet to offer $40 off the cost of the gaming device, plus free shipping. But that's not all; gamers also get a free month of OnLive's CloudLift service along with a free month of the PlayPack. In total, that's a savings of almost $60.

The $199 Wikipad 7 launched in June 2013, packing Nvidia's Tegra 3 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz. Other hardware features include a 7-inch IPS screen with a 1280 x 800 resolution, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, microHDMI output, and a 2MP camera on the front. The Android "Jellybean" (4.2.2) tablet also provides Wireless N and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, and a 4100 mAh battery promising 8 hours on a single charge.

The Wikipad 7 comes with a detachable controller dock that allows the tablet to slide in and lock. The peripheral includes analog thumbsticks on each side of the screen, a D-Pad on the left and the "ABXY" action buttons on the right. This method allows the Wikipad to be used solely as a tablet when users aren't playing games.

In comparison, Nvidia's own Shield handheld console currently retails for $199 USD as well, but features the newer Tegra 4 quad-core chip. This Android device also has a controller form factor complete with a 5-inch touch screen that flips up and down. Because it has access to Google Play, gamers can download and install the OnLive app and stream games that are compatible with controllers.

As previously reported, OnLive provides two services: PlayPack and CloudLift. PlayPack is essentially an all-you-can-eat gaming buffet for $9.95 per month, allowing customers to play a huge library of games on any device, not just high-end machines. CloudLift is also a subscription service for $7.95, which provides customers with streaming versions of PC games purchased through Steam. The list is growing, and currently includes Batman Arkham City, Metro Last Light, Saints Row IV, Dead Island and more.

OnLive reports that the $40 discount for the WikiPad 7 gaming tablet will only be offered to the first 500 orders. To get the discount, head here and enter the E3WIKIPAD code at checkout. Promo codes for CloudLift and PlayPack will be provided after the hardware's purchase.
