Dell Streak 5'' Phone Officially Priced at $299/549
Dell is Streaking on August 13 for $299.99 with new two-year AT&T contract and $549.99 without.
The Dell Streak tablet phone has been available across the pond for some time now, and today the device has an official date and price for the U.S. market.
It's the 5-inch tablet that's got a 3G radio and room for a SIM card so that it can access wireless data networks as well as take calls and send texts. The Evo 4G's 4.3-inch screen is already massive for a phone, but Dell takes it even further with the 5-inch Streak.
It's also the least pocketable phone out there, but for those of you who make a habit of wearing cargo pants or carry around purses (or satchels) will likely appreciate the large screen – especially if you find yourself doing more data-related things on your phone rather than talking.
The one major weakness, at least for now, is that it's shipping with Android 1.6, which is quite disappointing considering how much better Android 2.2 is.

* Orders for the Dell Streak Tablet open up for U.S. priority pre-sale registrants at www.dell.com/mobile this Thursday, August 12. General availability follows a day later at www.dell.com/mobile.

Or maybe if they advertised battery life we could see each new phone with a longer battery life even though the processor is the same.
So far I haven't seen any phones come out in the past 6 months that has been a step ahead of the rest in ANY way... -
darkbunny The other major weaknesses are the carrier and the fact that it's selling for 300 dollars with a 2-year contract. I honestly don't know much about AT&T's actual coverage, so I'll leave that alone (and God knows it's been beaten to death), but what I do know is that they'll lock this phone down, just like with the Backflip, which is sad.Reply
I still really can't get over the price, though. It's not even any more expensive than most phones off-contract, so I don't understand why it's 300 with one. -
haunted one 300 with contract and 550 without doesn't make much sense. Without contract is WAY better at this point.Reply -

SlickyFats I waited and waited and waited....then I gave up. Bought the Captivate on the 30th. I still have a few days to take it back I guess, but 1.6 seems like a BIG drawback.Reply
