Xbox One Wireless Adapter Now Supports Windows 7, 8.1 (Update)

Microsoft released the Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows at the tail end of October, and at the time the company was only willing to support Windows 10. The company has since change its stance and released drivers for both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 operating systems. Microsoft's Larry Hryb broke the news on Twitter to let Xbox fans know.

Microsoft's Xbox One Wireless Adapter supports up to 8 wireless controllers, The original MSRP was $24.99, but they are currently sold out at the Microsoft Store. Microsoft's Amazon page has them in stock but the price tag $49.99 for the current stock. 

Update, 12/14/15, 8:25am PT: The original version stated the retail price is $49.99 based on the Amazon link provided in source Tweet.

    Now if it were only backwards compatible with the Xbox360 controllers... That would make this adapter an instant buy for me.

    I have not used the XboxOne controller yet but I haven't seen a compelling reason to upgrade quite yet.

    Punk move MS. If people are so determined to use outdated technology then let them deal with the drawbacks of that. You should not be rewarding people for purposely staying behind the times. If they want to stay on 7 and 8.1 then screw em they don't get to play with the new toys.

    Controller is $60 (with only the USB cable) and the separate adapter is $25. There is no box with BOTH of them yet that I know of.

    Someone like me... I do most of my gaming on my HTPC from the couch. I'm currently using the 360 controller and adapter... But I bought the XBO version during black Friday sales.

    I'm still using Win 7 because i wanted to give Win 10 a chance to have more bugs ironed out. I'll Install my free upgradea week or two before or goes away.

    In the mean time, this is good news for me.

    This may sound silly but what exactly is this used for?
    This allows you to use a Xbox One wireless controller to play games on your computer. You could use the controllers before with a wired attachment. But now users with Windows 7 or 8.1 can play without the attachment. As the article said, if you had Windows 10, you could have used this from October.
