10 DVD Burners: 16x and Dual-Layer - or Nothing!
TDK 1616N
TDK, another major specialist in the optics world, sells both blank media and burners. The 1616N is the worthy successor to the 880N and has just as innovative a design. The chips used in this drive come from NEC, and are also found in the Pioneer, Asus, and NEC burners; the specifications are thus also similar. Protection is provided by the ACT OPC system (also from NEC).
Note that, oddly, TDK also provides chips for burner motherboards, like the one in the GSA-4160B from LG, but for some reason they're not used in the 1616N.

sasquatch451 Please report noise levels in optical drive reviews. This is a big factor in which drive to buy for some people. My current DVD burner sounds like a jet engine for 5 minutes after putting a disc in.Reply
