Brother MFC-665CW Photo Color All-in-One With Wireless Networking

At prices in the $145-$180 range, the Brother MFC-665CW defines the kind of functionality you'd expect from the high-end of the midrange in this market. In fact, the only things that more money will buy you in an MFC printer are faster page rates and more memory capacity. Otherwise this printer offers a great set of features and functions, including wired and wireless (802.11b/g) Ethernet support, color LCD for photo preview and editing, a digital answering machine, bypass 4"x6" photo paper tray, memory card slots and (limited) ADF support for copying and faxing.

The Brother MFC-665CW includes a digital answering machine along with other bells and whistles.

As with the MFC-440CN the downsides for this unit include relatively slow page rates (somewhat faster than the 440CN at 27 ppm for monochrome and 22 ppm for color), a light duty cycle (2,500 pages per month) and a small, 10-sheet ADF. To that unit's USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet support, this unit adds an 802.11b/g wireless network interface (this is very handy for those with laptops or who already use wireless networks, while WPA2 is also supported using either TKIP or AES encryption). Fax and copy rates are also a little faster for this model than the 440CN (12 ppm for faxing, 20 cpm for monochrome and 18 cpm for color copies). Consumable are the same as for the DCP-130c ($16 for 500 pages of black, and $15 for 400 pages in each of three colors).
