HTC One Mini is Official, Coming This Fall

After months of speculation, HTC has finally officially announced the HTC One mini. Though we saw photos of the device earlier this month, HTC had yet to formally announce the smartphone. The company is billing this phone as a compact version of its flagship HTC One, but the One mini is by no means small. It's not even that much smaller than the HTC One. In fact, the biggest difference here is what's under the hood.

The phone squeezes in a 4.3-inch display 720p (341ppi), a 1.4 GHz dual-core CPU, Adreno 305 graphics, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, and a 1,800 mAh Li-Polymer battery (non-removable). This is compared to the HTC One, which has a 4.7-inch 1080p (468ppi) display, a quad-core 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 600 CPU, 2 GB of RAM, 32 or 64 GB of storage (like the Nexus 4, there's no option for expansion via microSD), an NFC, and a 2,300 mAh battery. Both phones feature a 4-megapixel camera, LTE, and version five of HTC's Sense UI.

Of course, it would be silly to push this as a mini version of the HTC One if the two phones didn't resemble each other on the outside. As such, the One mini shares the same aesthetic as its older brother.

"We are proud to be behind the market's leading smartphone and now, with the addition of the HTC One mini, the best smartphone family in the world," said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. "The HTC One mini embodies everything that makes the HTC One a success on a smaller but equally eye-catching scale."

The HTC One mini is launching in select markets next month and will be available globally starting in September.

I don't understand why companies think it is a good idea to water down a successful brand.

The HTC One Mini looks is an example of what the iPhone will look like 10 years since they are so behind on innovation and what the consumer wants.
