VOTW: This Homemade Printer Kicks Ass
It's been a while since I've done a video of the week post but this clip of a Lego printer is definitely worthy of the title.
There's very little information available about this printer from YouTube user horseattack, other than it's completely homemade (i.e. not from a kit) and uses felt tip pens to ink out each line.
Full YouTube description:
"Lego felt tip 110" printer connected to an Apple Mac. This is not a kit you can buy and does not use mindstorms. I designed/built/coded it all from scratch including analog motor electronics, sensors and printer driver, the USB interface uses a "wiring" board."
My favorite part of this 90-second video is the little LEGO men 'operating' the printer. That or the little LEGO man on the pony, because ponies are a necessary component for any LEGO printer.
Hat tip for this one goes to my dear dad [he's awesome!--Ed.].

Tuan has a huge man-crush on my dad.
Better than some of those kamikaze printers these days, not ban for a Mac boy/grill.
My god. This is a brilliant advertising scheme for Legos...
now THAT is AWESOME. Amazing what people think up to do.

ORLY?
Pretty cool printer. I'm more fond of the home-made 3d printers personally, such as RepRap. Cool nonetheless
Lego = Epic Win
Lego Printer = EPIC WIN
This takes me back to the heady days of the old West Coast Computer Faire in the late '70s, when people were showing off their chicken wire and duct tape laced homebrew projects. It was more fun back then when there was little practical use for these gadgets!
i wish i had the time and creativeness to make stuff like this
hats off to you sir.
I'd like to try that with markers and replace my printer!
ORLY?
Haha, it's true. The original text said "dear old dad" and he removed the world 'old' out of respect!

I knew some wise crack would come out against Apple, this site is filled with MS fanboys.
LOL this isnt home-made, what a load of BS, I own this kit myself, bought from futureshop few years ago. did he cut out the lego pieces on a saw or a lathe?, NO, all he did was use recycled mindstorm lego peices and a bit of summer camp programming, I do this stuff in my sleep. you get F+, kid. try harder next time.

Lego, is there anything they can't do?

except for the fact that it looks completely different, and has no mindstorm pieces.
