Colossal 28TB Seagate Ironwolf Pro drops to $449 in Amazon Black Friday deal — egregiously big HDD costs just $16 per TB, makes recycle bin pointless
Seagate's big Ironwolf Pro drive is ideal for any home server setup
It's Black Friday, so that means deals galore, among one of the best we've spotted so far is for Seagate's biggest Ironwolf Pro drive, sporting an enormous 28TB platter, making it suitable for your NAS, home server, or pretty much anything else you can think of. Amazon has discounted the IronWolf Pro to just $449, which is cheaper than the previous low of $479, seen earlier this year, offering up a total discount of 21%.
Now, you might think that hard drives are outmoded, superseded by the speed and form-factor of SSDs. However, while a hard drive is indeed much slower than many contemporary flash storage options, the humble HDD is still unbeatable when it comes to price-per-gigabyte and longevity. Seagate's IronWolf Pro is specifically designed to be used in servers, with enterprise-grade uptime.
Sporting 7200 RPM speeds in its' charmingly-familiar 3.5-inch form-factor, you might have to refamiliarize yourself with SATA cables, with the IronWolf Pro sporting the SATA III interface, for up to 6 Gb/s bandwidth, and speeds of up to 285 MB/s. The drive is rated for up to 550TB/year, with a Mean Time Between Failures of 2.5 million hours, or 285 years. That's a ton of data and uptime before a chance of failure. But with that said, you should probably still back things up, just in case.
This Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) drive is faster and cheaper than Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) drives, offering an additional boon. If you've got a NAS or are running a home server for projects and files, then this drive is difficult to beat, especially if you're looking for something with sheer volume over all else.
This 28TB enterprise-grade HDD has a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface and spins at 7200 rpm. If you're looking for a single or replacement drive, you should check this deal out. Built for 24/7 operation, the IronWolf Pro is designed for sustained use and reliability.
As a further play for longevity, the drive has rotational vibration (RV) sensors for vibration tolerance and consistent performance in multi-bay systems. Also, if you're worried about any early failures, then the Seagate IronWolf Pro also comes with a 5-year limited manufacturer's warranty.
The 28TB model is identical to the 30TB model we reviewed in September 2025. Scoring 4 stars, it offers great maximum performance despite some quirks, making it more suited to heavy workloads than basic file storage. It's just about the best hard drive you can get for a NAS, as we've noted in our roundup. The only other drawback is the high base cost, negated somewhat by this deal. We've dropped some specific benchmarks below, so you have an idea of what performance looks like.

Now that the drive is cheaper than ever before, this should be a serious contender at $449 from Amazon for Black Friday, especially if you are considering high-volume storage for your NAS or home server setup.
