    Your article did not mention how important it is to get a charger with a UL/ETL safety mark on it. Because UL actually verifies that a product does not catch fire or shock the user, it is very important for products that plug into the AC outlet. Buying a sub $12 charger online can put your life at risk.

    As a consultant who helps with liability cases, I can attest to the critical nature of using products with the UL/ETL mark, and CE for Europe. I have opened up many powered devices to find that the product engineers did not understand the importance of voltage spacing and selection of fire prevention materials. In one case, we found a design that had an intentional 1mm spark gap designed between the line voltage side and the USB output island. So a very common 2-4KV line voltage surge would easily spark over and shock the user if touching the device. The UL and CE standards give excellent guidance for designers to follow including voltage spacing and material selection (usually 94V0 fire ratings).
