HP Launch Event: From Workstations To IndyCar And DreamWorks
How It's Made
Here we see the proprietary DreamWorks animation software running in a Linux environment. While characters in the original Shrek had roughly 500 control points, the dragons in How to Train your Dragon have anywhere from 2,000 to 5,000 control points. On the right, the animation is shown in an X/Y/Z plane, and there's a nearly-unreadable amount of data.
Movie Time!
DreamWorks uses Dolby 3D tech in its on-campus theater, and it also just inked a deal with Samsung to provide 3D content with 3D LED TVs shipping this year (buy a TV, get Monsters vs. Aliens for free). Beyond that, it's movie time, so cameras off!!!
One Last Thing...
Believe it or not, HP didn't start out as a computer manufacturer. In fact, the company's first invention was a audio oscillator which helped in designing and maintaining audio equipment in the late 1930s and 1940s. The 200B, pictured above, was commissioned by Disney in order to maintain the 12 theaters in which Fantasia was shown when released in the 1938. Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, the founders of HP, built eight 200Bs for Disney at $78.50 a pop.

powerbaselx Honestly, this seems no inovation at all from HP. Changing the CPU's and the graphic cards and showing Dreamworks uses HP PC's with Photoshop to create animation movies characters do not impress me at all. It's pretty banal. Other companies show much more than this. :-(Reply

eaclou I'm surprised they didn't show their new business-class IPS-panel LCDs, the ZR22w and ZR24w. I just got the 24" model and it's really nice, so far better than the Dell U2410 (which is wide-gamut, to complicate a direct comparison, but I think it's superior, especially at $425 for an IPS display)Reply -
fancarolina I like their Z800 board but it's not a 24-core board. It's 12-cores with 24 threads.Reply
