The tests were run in four steps
- CD play (650 MB)

- DVD play
- Minimum, maximum and mean transfer rateRandom, 1/3 and full access timeVideo extraction of 7.76 GB (double layer)
- CD recording
- Time to record a CD-R - 650 MBTime to record a CD-RW - 650 MB
- DVD recording
- Time to record a DVD-R - 4.38 GBTime to record a DVD+R - 4.38 GBTime to record a DVD-RW - 4.38 GBTime to record a DVD+RW - 4.38 GB
The image used for recording on DVD contained several thousand files of different sizes. The tests run with a single video of the same size (4.38 GB) did not show any difference. The time taken to record a video DVD is therefore about the same as a data DVD
The DVD recording tests were done on Imation DVD-media, except for the DVD+R test, for which we used Traxdata because it is more 8X-compatible.
We compared the Plextor PX-708A recorder with the Pioneer DVR-A06.
