Alpenföhn Announces Silvretta Low-Profile CPU Cooler

EKL Alpenföhn (Alpenfoehn) has released a new CPU cooler intended for very compact systems. The cooler, known as the Silvretta, has a height of only 45 mm, and that is including the dimensions of the fan. The unit has a 92 mm fan, which is PWM controlled and can be adjusted to rotate in speeds ranging from 800 RPM to 2800 RPM. The fan is 15 mm thick and can push up to 47 CFM.

The cooler itself is simply an array of aluminum fins to which heat is transferred through a triplet of heat pipes. It measures 100 x 93 mm, so it doesn't get in the way of expansion cards or any memory modules. In combination with the fan, the unit should be able to make as little noise as 15 dBA. The cooler also comes with mounting brackets for Intel and AMD platforms, and will work on all mainstream CPU sockets, including the LGA 1150 socket.

So far there has been no word on availability, but the cooler does have an MSRP price of €20. Expect a similar or slightly higher price when the unit hits U.S. shelves.

I might get something like this for my wife's PC if I ever move her to a slim case.

Might be good for an ultra small system, but not likely to cool as well as even an OEM HSF.

I don't care much for aluminum as a conduit for heat, otherwise it looks cool.

How would this compare to the 40mm Scythe Kozuti as the ultimate 1.5U low-profile cooler?
