Apple is doing everything in its power to convert the relationship between itself and Samsung from "love-hate" to "hate-hate".
Apple still relies on Samsung for the mass production of its mobile processors. However, the firm has apparently made its intentions clear in regards to not utilizing Samsung's technology, an unnamed senior official at the Korean electronics company seemingly told The Korea Times.
The report states that the relationship between the two technology giants is "now about to become one-dimensional."
"There are three types of chip clients," the Samsung source said. "Some want us to handle everything from chip design, architecture and manufacturing. Some want us to just design and manufacture. Some wants us to just make the chips. Apple is now the third type."
Samsung is said to have generated more revenue from Apple due to the manufacturing of the A6 processor found in the iPhone 5 than the cash made from building earlier chips. Either way, Samsung is reportedly the only semiconductor manufacturer that is able to meet Apple's needs in a short period of time for the high volume of chip production.
Although Apple worked with Samsung in the design of previous processors, the new A6 chip saw the former designing its own ARMv7 core for the first time.
Aside from Samsung-manufactured chips, Apple is also considering a move away from Intel Chips found in its Macs lineup.
