HTC announced plans for a New York City event several weeks ago, and the build-up to this event has been littered with leaked specs and images. Today, the company finally took the wraps of its newest flagship phone, the HTC One.
Featuring a zero-gap aluminium unibody, the HTC One boasts a 4.7”, Full HD 1080p screen with 468ppi resolution, a quad-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 32 or 64GB of storage (like the Nexus 4, there's no option for expansion via microSD), Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, LTE, and a 2300 mAh battery. The device measures just 5.4 x 2.7 x 0.37 inches and weighs 143g.
On the software side of things, the HTC One will ship with Android Jelly Bean, but with HTC's Sense UI on top. This will add several features to the phone, including HTC Zoe, which allows users to create short three second clips using high-res photos. This features uses HTC's new UltraPixel camera, which features an f/2.0 aperture lens and a " breakthrough sensor with UltraPixels that gather 300 percent more light than traditional smartphone camera sensor." The phone also has front-facing stereo speakers as part of HTC BoomSound, a new audio system featuring Beats technology, and HTC Sense TV, an interactive program guide and remote control for most TVs, set-top boxes and receivers.
"People today immerse themselves in a constant stream of updates, news and information. Although smartphones are one of the main ways we stay in touch with the people and information we care about, conventional designs have failed to keep pace with how people are actually using them," said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. "A new, exciting approach to the smartphone is needed and with the new HTC One, we have re-imagined the mobile experience from the ground up to reflect this new reality."
HTC says the HTC One will be available globally through more than 185 mobile operators and major retailers in more than 80 regions and countries beginning in March.
