AMD Hawaii GPU '14 Tech Day Sneak Peek in Pictures

Tom's Hardware Worldwide Editor-in-Chief Chris Angelini is taking one for the team and is on location at AMD's GPU14 event in Hawaii. Last night, Chris got the chance to go hands on with a piece of AMD's new hardware. Here's what he got to see:

If you look closely at one of the pictures, you may recognize the model number from news you may have read recently: AMD Radeon R9 290X. On a side note, this quick peek took place on the U.S.S. Missouri. Check out more pictures of her below, if you're into that sort of thing.

AMD will be presenting a live webcast at 3:00 p.m. ET at LiveStream. Also stay tuned for our live commentary during that time in our live blog.

They did that once with their Eyefinity setup, forgot which ship they we're on when they demo it.
And is that 3 intake holes just like the R7-260X? What happened to using 2x mini-DP like their previous gen cards?

That's a interesting heatsink design. I wonder how efficient it is.

Guess we will find out soon I guess.

Also looks like R9-290X is the new top end single GPU so I guess the R9-295X might be the dual GPU?

I'm excited for the Gigabyte design from it, they usually have a card with 3 fans.

How fast after this event and the NDA closure will Tom's be able to have reviews of these new boards from AMD?

I have to say I don't care for the new model naming convention though.

It's 6 months behind Nvidia so it had better offer pretty good price/performance. Either way it's good for NV users like me because it'll lower 700 series prices.

I hope they simplify the codes or are those just insider code names? Radeon 5xxx 6xxx etc and GTX 6xx 7xx are all pretty easy to remember.
