Chinese Manufacturer Builds a 2000 Watt PSU

A Chinese manufacturer that goes by the name of 'Great Wall' has revealed its new 2000 W PSU. The unit, while not yet 80 Plus Gold certified, does have 80 Plus Gold qualifications, with the certificate coming later. It'll be known as the GW-EPS2000DA.

As mentioned, the PSU is capable of delivering up to 2000 W, however, this is only when it is connected into a 210 - 265 VAC plug. While it has support for inputs between 90 and 265 VAC, if it is connected between a 90-120 VAC line it'll push no more than 1600 W.

The unit features the standard 24-pin ATX connector, four 8-pin EPS connectors, eight 6+2-pin PCIe power connectors, nine Molex connectors, a dozen SATA power leads, and lastly, a classy floppy connector. The power supply itself is 20 cm long, and has a 140 mm fan to cool down its internals.

Great Wall is releasing the unit first in the greater China region, where it'll retail for an equivalent price of about $650.

Just curious if there is a practical application here or if this was just done for marketing hype.

There is no way I would trust a 2K Chinese PS. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a 1.5K(or lower) with 2K peak power marketed as 2K.

If the streetlight don't dim when you turn on your setup, your power supply is too small!!

"Chinese Manufacturer Builds a PSU that says 2000W on the box" would probably be closer to the truth.

Even that wouldn't come anywhere close to requiring 4x EPS12V connectors unless AMD decided to release a multi-socket Opteron variant of FX9xxx.

To be honest, their 80+ gold rated power supplies have been pretty good, the OCZ ZX 850w and the OCZ ZT 750W are two examples of gold rated great wall products and they are pretty good.

so in american homes its a 1600w psu and only places that can push 240v power (i.e. data centers) will be able to use this to its max capacity... well till the chinese capacitors blow a week later that is.
