Immersed 2015 VR Conference: What's Under the Hood Panel (Video)

The Immersed 2015 VR and AR conference has been taking place at the Ontario Science Centre over the past few days. This conference brings together some of the brightest minds in the immersive entertainment industry, including from both the hardware and content creation side of the shop.

On the second day of the conference, Tom's Hardware's Alex Davies moderated the "What's Under the Hood" panel, which featured speakers from AMD and benchmarking company Basemark. You can watch that entire panel below (with apologies for the quality of the audio):

Joining Alex was Sasa Marinkovic, AMD's Head of VR Marketing, whom we recently interviewed. Also on the panel was Jon Peddie, from Jon Peddie Research, who is an analyst covering the graphics industry, and Arto Ruotsalainen, Co-Founder and VP of Operations for Basemark.

During the panel, we asked about the current state of VR, and if the technology is already there to provide an experience ready for mass adoption. We also asked what they thought would be needed for the optimal "best" experience.

Another topic we covered was how graphics card optimizations can help improve the VR experience, and how we can prevent those optimizations becoming proprietary. The last topic covered was benchmarking, both systems powering VR and the HMDs themselves, and what are the challenges to getting accurate results.

Today is the last day of the Immersed Conference, and our team on the ground is gathering as much information as possible, so stay tuned for more coverage from the event.

Despite having microphones in their hands, speakers sound as if in a cave. This is unlistenable. Yes, that is a word. I say it is, so it is.
