Report: Yahoo! in Talks to Purchase Imgur

Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer has been on something of a shopping spree since she took over, and it sounds like she already has her eye on the company's next purchase. According to the latest rumors, Yahoo! may buy popular image sharing site Imgur.

Business Insider this week cites a source that says Yahoo! entered into serious talks to buy the site in the fall. The San Francisco-based photo sharing site was originally started as a photo sharing tool for Reddit users in 2009. Now boasting over 100 million users, it's easy to see why Yahoo! might be interested in the property.

Mayer joined Yahoo! in July 2012. As of October, Yahoo! has acquired no fewer than 23 companies since she took the helm. Financial details for these deals are mostly under wraps, though the company's biggest purchase, blogging platform Tumblr, cost a whopping $1.1 billion. Will Yahoo! be wrapping things up with Imgur in time for the holiday season? We'll keep you posted. No word on how much Yahoo! is going to offer, but BI reckons it could be anywhere between $100 million and $500 million.

Imgur is pretty much only used on Reddit. I like it and hope Yahoo doesn't mess with it too much.

Great - then they can turn a functional and free service into a paid nightmare of limitations and screwed up usability, like they did with their own groups and email.

Yahoo already owns Flikr, and they have a lot of users. Wonder what they'd gain in buying Imgur, aside of buying out a competitor.

I really dislike flikr. It takes way longer to load than Imgur does.
