Raspberry Pi has got to be one of the cutest little boards we've ever seen. That said, at the end of the day, it's still a board. It's not that cute. This Raspberry Pi powered robot, though? Well, we kind of want to snuggle with it. Look at him!
This is Rapiro and he's currently on Kickstarter trying to raise funds to make it to market. Rapiro is designed to work with Raspberry Pi and comes with a Arduino-compatible servo controller. Your Raspberry Pi and Camera module can be mounted in his head. He's also got room for PSD distance sensor and speakers. Rapiro comes with a total of 12 servo motors, one each for the neck and waist, four for the feet, and six for the two arms. Rapiro can walk with its feet, can grip a pen, and can turn its head and waist. Creator Shota Ishiwatari says the little robot can walk with his feet, grip a pen, and turn his head as well as his body at the waist.
"I believe that Rapiro can be a catalyst between robotics and Paspberry Pi," said Tokyo-based Ishiwatari. "We want to start a revolution in cute, cool, affordable, customizable, and programmable robots. If we are successful in our Kickstarter, we will publish 3D data (.stl) on our website, allowing you to customize the RAPIRO with a 3D printer. "
Backers pledging over £199 will get the full Rapiro kit for themselves.
