Samsung Gets Curvy With New SE790C Monitor
Looking to purchase a new monitor this holiday season? Samsung revealed over the weekend a new 34-inch curved monitor called the SE790C. This panel has an edge-to-edge curved radius of 3,000 mm, a 21:9 aspect ratio and a 3,440 x 1,440 (Ultra WQHD) resolution, making it ideal for gamers and tech-savvy enthusiasts looking to break away from the standard flat screen.
"Unlike flat screen monitors where the viewing distance differs from the center of the screen to the edges, the screen edges of the SE790C more closely match the natural curve of a viewer's eyes," stated Samsung's Tomorrow global blog. "As a result, the SE790C creates a distortion-free viewing experience with less eye strain and enhanced comfort for viewer."
According to the blog, the new curved monitor has a static contrast ratio of 3,000:1, a typical brightness of 300 cd/m2, a response time of 4ms and 178 degree viewing angles. There's also a Picture-By-Picture mode that allows users to connect two devices and view their screens side-by-side, as well as a Picture-In-Picture mode for viewing a second screen within the first screen. Four USB 3.0 ports eliminate the need for a docking station.
The blog also revealed that the new Samsung monitor has a "game mode," which alters the contrast, "enhances" colors and eliminates motion blurring. This mode is complemented by two built-in 7 watt stereo speakers that promise a "richer experience." A curved T-shaped stand allows the user to adjust the monitor's height, and VESA brackets enable wall mounting.
Samsung is no stranger when it comes to the curved monitor market. The company has one other model that's already on store shelves and costs $429.99. This 27-inch solution includes a 1920 x 1080 resolution, a static contrast ratio of 3,000:1, an aspect ratio of 16:9, a 4ms response time and a brightness of 300 cd/m2. Additional features include 178 degree viewing angles, one VGA port, one HDMI port, one DisplayPort jack and audio input.
Samsung didn't provide a release date or price for the new SE790C panel, but we expect to see and hear more about the panel during CES 2015 in just a few short weeks.

Lmah Good to see a curved monitor. I'm not a huge fan of curved TV's but I can see there being benefits to having a curved computer monitor especially in the ultra wide format. If there was a lower latency variant I would probably pick it up.Reply -
chuyayala I would definitely wait for a freesync version of the monitor (if this one doesn't include freesync). The rest of their 2015 lineup include freesync according to AMD/Samsung. I truly hope they confirm freesync next month.Reply -
chuyayala Make it in 4K and then I might think about it not until then.
5120X2160 (next step-up for ultra-wide) with freesync would be amazing.

knowom I'd rather have this resolution than 4k tbh a lot more practical, but doesn't make a big difference either way.Reply -
SessouXFX 4K is dead to me. Until there is substantial growth in that area, send me all 1440P monitors with 100hz or better refresh rates.Reply -
SkyBill40 I expect this will be around the price of the LG curved monitor, so that means ~ $800 USD-ish if not more. I've seen the LG and it's brilliant. I do favor Samsung, so this one certainly has my eye if the cost isn't too prohibitive.Reply -
Blush Oh man, This will go great with my planned Black and White themed build I'll be doing soon. I hope the price is good.Reply
