The tough resolution of 1600x1200x32 stresses the 3D cards really hard. Good old TNT2 Ultra can't produce any even slightly playable frame rates anymore. The super expensive Quadro2 is the only card that can supply reasonable frame rates at that high resolution and color depth. The page flipping vs. bit bltting handicap of the Linux drivers has quite a hefty impact here and will certainly keep Linux users from playing at this screen setting.
It's no surprise that all platforms perform the same. The 3D card and its driver are the bottlenecks here.
