Benchmark Results: SiSoftware Sandra
SiSoftware's Sandra CPU tests appear to benefit somewhat from the $2000 processor’s Hyper-Threading capability, its larger cache, or perhaps both.
Of course, the real-world benefit that any app would see from the same variables is debatable, as only software optimized for multiple cores would enjoy a speed-up, and even then, it'd benefit less from Intel's logical cores than a processor with four physical execution cores.
With half of the cache and core count of the $1000 machine’s Core i5-2500K, the $500 machine’s low-cost Core i3-2100 meets or exceeds our admittedly modest expectations.
DDR3-1600 gives the $2000 system a big boost over its cheaper siblings in Sandra's Memory Bandwidth benchmark, while CAS 7 timings give the $1000 machine a small advantage over the $500 machine’s CAS 8 (overclocked).
