Microsoft Targets Galaxy S3 with New Commercial

Samsung has a habit of taking down its competitors in its commercials. Last week, LG gave the South Korean company a taste of its own medicine with a giant billboard in Times Square. Now it seems Microsoft is also keen to name check Samsung in its marketing materials.

Redmond's latest commercial for its Windows Phone operating system pits a customer's Galaxy S3 camera against the lens on a Lumia 920. Of course, the Lumia 920, with its 8.7-megapixel PureView camera designed to really kick butt in low-light settings, handily beats out the Galaxy S3 in a nighttime photo comparison. Of course, the Galaxy S3 user immediately switches allegiance to Windows Phone, ditching her GS3 for the Nokia Lumia 920.

This isn't Microsoft's first shot at such a campaign. In fact, the company has done the whole "Smoked by Windows Phone" several times. However, previous versions of this commercial didn't focus on just one phone, nor was photography the deciding factor. Instead, Microsoft would ask smartphone users to pick a task for them to "race." This could be uploading a picture to Twitter, capturing a photo, or opening a web page. Those that beat Windows Phone got $100.

And when the S4 ads hit, the campaign should be "Microsoft: Concentrating on Yesterday" or "Microsoft: Still Trying To Catch Up" or

It is nice nice that Microsoft realizes Windows phone customer base are mentally challenged people, 30+ years old and like to go to McDonald's.
Even Joe the plumber would say the Windows phone for non-techy people with lack of consciousness.

Besides the camera I am sick and tired of Android for dozens of other reasons and will be getting a Windows phone as soon as my POS carrier (Sprint) offers one.

MS - just give up. Comparing Windows Phone to S3 is really joke because your Windows 8 Phone you are ending support for in 2014 is a joke.

MS isn't doing themselves any favors here, Samsung has pretty much won and they're just sitting there making tiny jabs at them with their poorly price, poorly marketed products.

It is a great phone. One thing I noticed is that the sound is great when playing videos, easily capable of showing off videos to people in a noisy environment (eg At a party)

The hardware is what makes this phone good however... if there was an Android version, it would be $50 cheaper *eyeroll @ MS*
