Apple's 7-inch iPad Discussion Revealed in Court Documents

In a famous earnings call, Steve Jobs noted that 10-inch is simply the right size. The doubts analysts expressed that day were shared with some executives inside Apple as well: Court documents unsealed in the Apple-Samsung trial confirm that Eddy Cue, in charge of Apple's iTunes unit, advocated a 7-inch version of the tablet and discussed such a product with Steve Jobs.

Apparently, Jobs was "receptive" for such a product. That was on January 24, 2011 - or just about three months after the earnings call, which took place on October 18, 2010. However, there was no indication that the 7-inch iPad went beyond the discussion phase.

Instead, there are signs that the iPhone changed Apple more than itself believed initially and there was a somewhat conclusive thought that the phone was proof that Apple could be more than just a computer company. This may explain why Apple thought it could build digital cameras and possibly even cars. Strangely enough, none of the documents have referred to future products such as the rumored Apple LCD TV. Perhaps there are still trade secret concerns, but given the volume of information that has been disclosed already, and the insights in Apple's inner workings, it really may not matter anymore.

A bit of Apple history here; basically, a document revealing that a specs discussion took place in a company meeting.
Groundbreaking, indeed; IDK if any of us will be the same anymore after this fantastic reveal.
I, for one, will be quaking in my boots for the rest of the year....

Maybe Apple is prepping the grounds for future lawsuits, suing everyone that ever launched a 7 inch tablet before their product (this, after they launch it, of course)..
Or, maybe Gruener had a slow Apple day and decided to refresh everyone's memory about something that we already knew it happened.

Screw what Jobs said, 7'' is great (using original Galaxy Tab with CM9). Fits in my pocket perfectly and yet is big enough for comfortable browsing. 10 inch would require a bag.

    The Apple 'car'....

and in other News, Ford announced the pending release of its new Tablet PC called the 'Focus' while GM is keeping mum over the rumored GM phone called the 'Prizm'; it is Ford tough (lawsuit pending) and built like a rock.

Ya know, some sicko who is sorta dyslexic will type..." Steve Jobs inserted a 7" tablet in Steve Cue, who advocated the insertion. And Steve Jobs was " Receptive to the idea"". You get the gist....

  • Scamsung wasn't able to compete until it made a product identical to the iPhone. The Galaxy S is identical to the iPhone except for the OS, so anyone that bought one really was just saying "I want an iPhone, but I want people to think I am a unique rebel, so I will buy a device that is identical to the iPhone in everything except the logo on the back".

Kudos to Scamsung for piggybacking off of Apple's hardwork. It's going to cost them $2.5 billion and their biggest partner, but hey, it was able to reestablish itself in the smartphone industry thanks to Apple's hard work!
