TRENDnet Intros High Gain Wireless AC USB Adapter

On Tuesday during CES 2014, networking specialist TRENDnet introduced the AC600 High Gain Wireless USB Adapter (TEW-806UBH), a USB dongle for connecting to a Wireless AC network. The company boasts that this adapter's high gain antenna significantly increases wireless coverage of a connected computer as compared to other Wireless AC adapters.

"Wireless AC offers tremendous connection speeds, however, wireless coverage can be an issue at times," stated Sonny Su, technology director of TRENDnet. "The TEW-806UBH maximizes your computer's wireless coverage within an existing Wireless AC network."

This new adapter is designed around high gain antennas that greatly increase wireless range and wireless speed. The antenna rotates and tilts, allowing users to further improve wireless connection strength by making adjustments. The idea here is that this adapter will pick up a Wireless AC signal at greater distances than other Wireless AC adapters currently on the market.

But don't let the "speed" description fool you. This adapter is only capable of 433 Mbps on the 5 GHz band, and only 150 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band. Theoretically, Wireless AC can jump up to 1300 Mbps on the 5 GHz band if you have the right hardware, but again, TRENDnet is shooting for high connectivity at longer distances, making this device ideal for large homes and offices that don't need higher Mbps speeds.

Looking to build a Wireless AC network? TRENDnet has three routers: the AC1750 with a max speed of 1300 Mbps, the AC1200 with a max speed of 867 Mbps, and the AC750 with a max speed of 433 Mbps. That said, the AC750 would be the ideal companion for the new high gain adapter.

TRENDnet's new AC600 High Gain Wireless USB Adapter will be made available in March for $39.99 USD.
